Great music is at the heart of our worship at Great St Mary’s! Home to five choirs, an orchestra, the Michaelhouse Chorale, and recitals throughout the year, our majestic and beautiful sanctuary also boasts two fine pipe organs, and a peal of twelve bells.
With five choirs and a long tradition of great choral music, Great St Mary’s takes pride in our choral offerings. Our Director of Music, Sam Hayes, is always keen to hear from singers interested in joining our community of music makers — to learn more, visit our choirs page. We sing three choral services every Sunday during school term time.
Michaelhouse Singers meet in Michaelhouse every Friday at 2.30pm. Founded in 2007, this friendly choir is open to anybody with a mental health condition – whatever their age – and their carers and friends. The Singers are a joint venture between Michaelhouse and Arts and Minds.
Our worship has been graced with performances from choirs from as far afield as Canada and Russia, as well as local choirs looking for somewhere new and exciting to sing. We are always keen to welcome singing groups from any tradition, and have enjoyed hearing gospel choirs and choirs from the Orthodox tradition leading worship from our choir stalls.
