Great St Mary’s is an exciting place to explore for the whole family.

The church is the official centre of Cambridge and is open every day, so it’s easy to pop in for a quick visit when you’re exploring the city.

We love to welcome families to Great St Mary’s!  There is so much to look at, experience and explore.

Borrow our free explorer buckets to help you explore the church.  Filled with activities and challenges as well as a magnifying glass and binoculars, they will help your children look at the church from new perspectives!  Children also enjoy discovering the puzzles, games and timeline on our interactive touchscreens. We also have a small children’s area with toys for babies and toddlers.

Climbing the 123 spiral steps of the church tower is a fantastic experience and the stunning views are a hit with all ages.

Brass rubbing is a popular activity for families.  We have 5 replica brasses which are available to rub, including St George and the Dragon, the Madonna and Child, the Lacey Lady and a selection of knights and their animals! Our brass rubbing packs are perfect for sharing and your family can have fun creating their own masterpiece!

During the school holidays the Education Department runs special events for families including taking part in the Summer at the Museums, Open Cambridge and the Festival of Ideas.

For details of these craft activities, tours and storytelling sessions, keep an eye on our What’s On calendar.
