About us

The Michaelhouse Café and Centre exists within St Michael's church - the first college chapel in Cambridge. St Michael’s parish is thought to date from the original foundation of Cambridge city.

Michaelhouse is an outstandingly beautiful space within the heart of Cambridge. With its light and airy contemporary feel, this converted 14th Century church still retains a unique atmosphere of peace and reflection, making it a real oasis of calm. We have wide access doors, ramps, lifts and a large disabled toilet making it easy to visit in your wheelchair or push-chair.

In the old nave of the church you’ll find the award-winning Michaelhouse Café, serving delicious, high-quality, locally sourced food. From amazing hot meals, stunning sandwiches, salads, scones, cakes and cooked breakfasts to wines, fruit juices, quality coffees, herbal teas as well as good old ordinary tea – there’s sure to be something to tempt you. Free WiFi, filtered and chilled water and plenty of high-chairs mean it’s easy to stay a while (hidden up on the gallery are some very comfy sofas!).

Stroll through the glass doors from the café into the historic chancel. You are always welcome to come in and enjoy this special space. Whether you want to examine the history, light a candle, say a prayer, just have a moment of rest, or play with your child in the children’s corner – you are welcome! Worship services are still regularly held in the chancel.

The café, chancel, and our two meeting rooms are available to hire with reduced rates for charity groups. So if you’re looking for somewhere for a family celebration or party, a conference, debate, concert, rehearsal space, business meeting, seminar, interview, workshop or presentation space, then just get in touch with us – we’d be happy to help your event be perfect.
